God is a giver of "good" gifts. Today we declare that it is "Good" Friday. It should lead us to ask, "what are the good gifts in my life?" Is winning the lottery a good gift if it steals your soul? Is the trial your facing right now leading to your salvation?
No matter how things unfold in this life, if we are seeking after Jesus in humility we can be confident in the words of St. Paul, "We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28 We can face anything knowing that God has our best interest in mind. It's all leading to the resurrection.
Many people saw the crucifixion as a humiliating defeat but it is the source of life and eternal salvation. Jesus thank you for being the good gift. Thank you for pouring out yourself in trust knowing that the path of the Father was indeed good. Thank for saving us from ourselves and eternal death.
Let us seek his face so that we may live with him forever. The cross is the only way. Have a wonderful Good Friday. (Fr. Claude Burns)
