Building Up the Church

But whatever gains I had, these I have come to consider a loss because of Christ.

That is why Mary is created sinless, of the purest materials, from the first moment of her Immaculate Conception. She is created in this fashion for the benefit of the entire "building" of the Church.

CCC 198-202 Through the prophets, God calls Israel and all nations to turn to him, the one and only God: "Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth! For I am God, and there is no other...to me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 'Only in the Lord, it shall be said of me, are righteousness and strength.'" CCC 201

When I focus on the gains I have achieved by myself, I stop listening to Jesus, stop drawing near to him, and begin to bitterly complain about his presence, his "intrusion" in my life.

But when I realize my own sinfulness and turn to God, I participate in the building up of the Church - helping myself in the process and building up others in the Church.
